Busy Bee

I am both a perfectionist and a procrastinator. Great combination huh? I work my best under pressure which is why I tend to wait until the last minute but I still expect things to be their very best. Just the other night I was ordering prints of our family photos at 11:00 pm in an attempt to use a coupon that expired at midnight. I was huffing and puffing with each difficulty I encountered all while shaming myself for continuing to put this task of until the last minute. Although at 11:20 when the task was complete I felt victorious. Yes! I high-fived my husband, "I did it again just under the wire!" Needless to say this causes much anxiety in my life.

Saving Worth Stressing Over

When I have the kids do a task or when I put a limit on their time, like when Nate plays x-box, I like to set a timer (my busy bee timer). It keeps me focused on time and helps them to know when time is running out to complete a task. It seems to work well for them. I decided to start doing this for myself sometimes and it has helped with my productivity. It is fun to race against the clock even if the limit is self set. I can write, clean, read or whatever while the time ticks the minutes down and it is somehow motivational for me. I get to check things of my to-do list while striving for the perfection. Of course if I set the time for 30 minutes I will dilly-dally around until there is just enough time to complete the 10 minute task so my need to procrastinate get fulfilled while still allowing me to finish a head of time. Do you have any tips or tricks that help you meet deadlines or keep motivated on a task? Please share if you do!
