The 8 Best Things About Thanksgiving

Wow! The northeast really does put on a wonderful show as the season changes. All this fall happening around me has me ready for Thanksgiving and the opportunity to catch up with extended family. I look forward to the wonderful foods of the season. Pumpkin pie and apple pie is my moms staple, she makes dozen each year. This year I have been asked to bring some kind of dessert. As if anything I make can hold a candle near one of those pies but I am determined to come up with something that will please the crowd.

Thanksgiving can be viewed as stressful by many but it is also a time of great excitement and gathering. Here is a list of the 8 best things about Thanksgiving.

1. Family and Friends. Enough said.
2. Thankfulness. Everyone is thankful this time of year, well almost everyone. Many are counting their blessings and it is contagious.
3. Food. OMGoodness the food. The foods of the season are so warm and spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves).
4. Wine. Nothing goes with a great meal like a bottle of wine.
5. Football. I am not usually a huge football fan but there is something about having a game on while people pick a team and cheer for them. If it is one of the viewers favorite teams then it's on, let the battle commence.
6. Strange sleeping arrangements. It could not possible be a holiday if everyone were tucked in their normal beds. Come the holidays there are people sleeping everywhere! The couch, the floor, on air mattresses and depending on how much wine their might even be a family member sleeping in a living room chair. Oh what a sight!
7. Travel. It is fun to load everyone up in the car and head to the relatives house. It's not easy but it is part of the tradition.
8. Outside fires. Summer fires are wonderful. Fall fires are magical. There are stories to be told and laugh to had as cider is passed around the fire pit. The cool is a stunning contrast to the warmth of the gathering.
